Teatro Antico di Taormina
The Greek Theatre of Taormina is one of the most famous archaeological sites in Sicily, dating back to around the 3rd century BC. Built by the Greeks, but later expanded by the Romans, it is located on a hill offering spectacular views of the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna. The theatre, originally used for plays and shows, has a capacity of around 5,000 spectators. Its structure is well preserved, with an imposing semi-circular stage and steps overlooking the natural panorama. Today the theatre is still used for cultural events and concerts, bridging ancient history and modern life.
